October 27, 2026
Five Friday evenings, November 20 through December 18, carry most of Cedarburg's 2026 holiday calendar. On each of those nights from 5 to 8 p.m., the Chamber's luminaries line downtown Washington Avenue, a free trolley runs, the Shops of Cedar Creek Settlement hold their themed Festive Friday Eve, the Cedarburg Art Museum stays open late with reindeer in the garden, and the Cedarburg History Museum opens its Christmas Exhibit. Because they all run during the same few hours, you can't fit them all into one night. Each Friday has its own character, and the real plan is choosing which Friday suits whoever you're bringing.
The Cedarburg Chamber of Commerce's holiday page lists the Holiday Luminaries and the Free Trolley Rides for the same span: Friday nights, November 20 to December 18, 2026, along Washington Avenue in historic downtown. The trolley runs 5 to 8 p.m. with stops throughout downtown. Both depend on the weather. On those same Fridays, the Cedar Creek Settlement Merchant's Association holds its Festive Friday Eves from 5 to 8 p.m. at N70W6340 Bridge Rd. This is the program's 32nd year of free evening events for families at the restored 1864 woolen mill.
The museums open during nearly the same window. The Cedarburg History Museum at N58W6194 Columbia Rd. opens its Christmas Exhibit on Friday nights from 5 to 8 p.m. The Cedarburg Art Museum's Friday hours run a little longer, 4:30 to 8:30 p.m., with Santa's reindeer outside from 5 to 8.
Here is how the five Fridays compare:
Friday | Settlement theme | Settlement highlights | Also running |
|---|---|---|---|
Nov. 20 | The Settlement Christmas Showcase | Jay Isaacson live 5–8, Cedar Creek Winery's Christmas Blush Wine, Mel's Charities Food Truck | Luminaries and trolley begin; Art Museum and History Museum Friday nights begin |
Nov. 27 | Home for the Holidays | Free Make It & Take It projects, live music | Rivoli Holiday Film Series opens this day |
Dec. 4 | Santa's Workshop, presented by Horicon Bank | Santa and his Elves 5–8, a children's entertainer, Cedarburg High School Carolers, ornament and card crafts | Luminaries, trolley, museums |
Dec. 11 | Countdown to Christmas | Billed as a night for grown-ups to shop, with live music | Luminaries, trolley, museums |
Dec. 18 | Last-minute gifts night | Shopping for very last-minute gifts, live music | Final night for luminaries and trolley |
The Settlement's themes do the sorting for you, and they move from family nights to adult nights as December goes on. November 27 falls the day after Thanksgiving, and the Settlement aims it at "visiting friends and family" with free make-and-take projects and live music. December 4 is the children's night, with Santa, Elves, crafts and a children's entertainer. December 11 is explicitly the grown-ups' shopping night. The opening and closing Fridays are about the shops themselves, with the Christmas Showcase kicking off the season on November 20 and last-minute gift shopping on December 18.
Most Festive Friday Eves end with a gift basket drawing at 7:45 p.m. If you'd like to be there for it, plan the rest of the evening around that time, and check the Settlement's event page for each night's final performer lineup.
The same page lists Ansay & Associates, Newcastle Place, Victory Homes and Horicon Bank as this year's sponsors.
Nearly everything on a Cedarburg Friday is free and walk-up. The Cedarburg Art Museum's 'Twas the Night Before Christmas is the exception. The exhibit fills the period rooms of the Victorian Wittenberg-Jochem Mansion at W63N675 Washington Ave. with scenes from lines of Clement C. Moore's poem, and the outdoor garden has lights, hot beverages and Santa's live reindeer. Friday entry uses timed tickets between 4:30 and 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 per person, and children 5 and under get in free. The museum strongly encourages pre-registration because of its capacity. Ticket details are on the museum's Christmas page.
The museum is open well beyond the five Fridays, though. Its regular schedule runs Wednesday through Sunday, November 20, 2026 to January 3, 2027: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday. If the mansion rooms matter more to you than the reindeer and the luminaries outside, a weekday afternoon avoids the Friday crowd for timed slots. The History Museum's Christmas Exhibit also continues past the luminaries, with Friday nights through January 3, 2027.
On Fridays, nearly everything wraps up by 8 or 8:30 p.m. The Tipsy Elf stays open later. The Cedarburg Cultural Center runs it at the historic Kuhefuss House, W63N627 Washington Ave., from November 12 to December 26, 2026. Hours are 4 to 10 p.m. on Thursdays and 4 to 11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. This is its third re-imagined season, with holiday cocktails and Karaoke Karoling every Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. Guests must be 21 or older, and the space can be rented for holiday events. The Cultural Center's Tipsy Elf page has the details.
That gives the Fridays a natural shape. Start at the art museum when it opens at 4:30, walk or take the trolley through the luminaries during the 5-to-8 window, and finish at the Kuhefuss House, which stays open until 11. The Tipsy Elf also opens November 12, eight days before the first luminary night, so its first week runs before the rest of the Friday season begins.
Downtown has one more option this winter that it didn't have last year. Camp Bar opened over Memorial Day weekend at W63N664 Washington Ave., in the former Art of Joy space. The News Graphic reported on its northwoods cabin interior and its outdoor patio along the creek.
Some of the season sits outside the Friday stack, and these are the dates most likely to conflict with work or family plans:
Notice that the Rivoli series and Small Business Saturday both start on Thanksgiving weekend. Between the Settlement's Home for the Holidays night on Friday and the gift-check giveaway on Saturday, November 27 and 28 are the busiest back-to-back days of the season.
The Cedarburg Christmas site notes that it lists only events organizations submitted for posting. Expect a few smaller merchant events to turn up beyond what's here.
If you've been driving around the South Washington Avenue reconstruction since spring, the timing works out well. The City of Cedarburg's October 16 project update said the concrete work and pavement markings were complete, signal wiring at the Pioneer and Lincoln intersections was nearly done, and restoration was expected the following week. The project is scheduled to finish by Friday, November 6, 2026, and the City says it hopes to finish earlier. All of those timelines can shift with weather and construction progress. The City says the new signals will start in flashing-red mode and switch to full operation once traffic control comes down.
If the schedule holds, the corridor will be done by November 20, the first luminary night. The News Graphic reported that the project covers the stretch from about 215 feet north of Lincoln Boulevard south to the city limits, so it never reached the downtown blocks where the luminaries go. It includes new traffic signals at Lincoln Boulevard and Pioneer Road, two rapid-flash pedestrian crossings at Fairfield Street and Layton Avenue, and about 21 stamped-concrete planter bases along the corridor.
If work runs late, the Settlement's detour advice still applies. Coming from I-43 or anywhere south of Cedarburg, take McKinley Boulevard from Pioneer Road, or Lakefield Road off Port Washington Road, which brings you straight into downtown.
